Our society has an obsession with productivity and the hustle culture. We often define each other and ourselves based on how much we accomplish, equating busyness with success, normalcy, and health. While it's natural to have goals and aspirations, it's crucial to recognize when we are pushing ourselves too hard. Growth comes from challenges, but when we constantly rush to get everything done, we push our nervous system into a state of fight or flight, causing increased stress and missing out on life's little joys.
On a personal note, I once believed that to be accepted, I had to ignore my symptoms of PTSD and constantly push myself. This mindset led to severe burnout and depression. Through my journey of recovery, I learned the importance of balancing effort with ease, allowing myself to slow down and embrace self-compassion.
Imagine the freedom in releasing the pressure to meet impossible standards. By checking in with our nervous system, we can assess our capacity and move forward with compassion. This shift can transform our experience from one of relentless striving to one of mindful presence.
As you practice this week, both on and off the mat, embrace the balance between effort and ease. Listen to your body, honor your limits, and find joy in the journey as much as the destination.
