Let This be Enough

In our pursuit of growth and healing, it's easy to feel like we’re never quite enough—constantly striving, always looking for the next thing to fix. We often forget that meaningful change is gradual, and sometimes the most important thing we can do is honor where we are right now. As I reflected on my own journey recently, doubts clouded my mind. However, on my birthday, as I was teaching a class for Survivors at Hampshire College, I was reminded that what we truly seek is often already within us, quietly waiting to be acknowledged.

This past month has been a powerful reminder to pay attention, keep loved ones close, and never take this fleeting life for granted. Composer Ryuichi Sakamoto likened the fading sound of a piano to the impermanence of life. As we move through our days, it’s easy to overlook the gift of each moment. But when we slow down and truly listen, we can appreciate the richness of our experiences before they quietly pass by.

In a world that pushes us to rush and protect ourselves, slowing down and choosing compassion is a courageous act. Like all things, it requires practice —learning to summon it, even in times of tension. This season, let’s explore this together. I invite you to slow down, feel each breath, each movement, and notice how this gentle approach might soften your heart, inviting you to respond with love and intention.

As we continue our practice, both on the mat and in our lives, let’s embrace whatever comes without judgment. Whether it’s a tough moment or a quiet joy, let it be enough. The journey is not about constant self-improvement but about appreciating the person you are today. Let’s give ourselves the grace to simply be.
