Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is sexual assault awareness month, a time to raise awareness around sexual trauma and to uplift Survivors. As you might know, I myself am a Survivor of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of my father. I created Mitra specifically to empower other Survivors by sharing the practices of Yoga that have been so transformative in my own life and healing process. Since starting this business, I have met countless, incredible individuals who identify as Survivors, some who felt encouraged to share simply because I had. This beautiful community is full of educators, therapists, movement organizers, caretakers - people trying to make the world a better place.

To every Survivor I've come across: I see you, I believe you, and I thank you. You have made me feel less alone and so understood.

We all have trauma, suffering is human. However, our society has historically shamed and silenced any conversation around pain. Therefore, this month, I encourage you to stand in your truth, whatever that may be at this moment. When we open to the truth of our experiences, we can find compassion for ourselves and begin to heal. If/when we choose to share that truth, we help others know they are not alone and remind them that hope is always possible.

Regardless of your trauma and it's biological impact on your brain and body, know that you are normal. There is nothing wrong with you, there never was.

You are good. You are whole. You are inspiring.

Simply because you are you.
